Follow along as JTLoveBeauty shares the 10 essential products you need in your makeup bag this season, focusing on clean ingredients, summer longevity, and that perfect pop of color.
1. Moisturizer & SPF: Your Base Layer
A great moisturizer is a must-have for any look, and most can double as a primer. During the hot months, switch to lightweight formulas. My everyday go-to is the LAMIK Balancing Moisturizer, which provides perfect balance.
Summer Pro Tip: Since oil production increases in the heat, look for oil-controlling products. For daytime, I love Murad Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15 because it actively absorbs oil. When I know I am going to be outside, I always top my base with an additional, dedicated SPF. Avoid products with high fragrance or parabens.
Defined brows frame the entire face. To achieve a natural look, a powder is best. Select a color close to your natural hair tones to ensure a perfect blend. I love the LAMIK Revelation Brow Kit—it comes with everything needed for a flawless look.
The Full Look: Use a cream a little lighter than your skin tone to highlight the brows, and seal the deal with the LAMIK Brow Gel.
3. Color Pops: Spring's Hottest Trend
Pastel bright colors are officially in! One easy way to get the look is a single color eye pop or a bright color applied as an eyeliner.
JTLoveBeauty Tip: Always base your eyelid with a cream (like the sculpting cream from my brow kit) to help the color stay on and truly stand out!
4. Body Scrub: Refresh Your Skin
Due to shifting weather, the top layer of skin can become very dry. Regular scrubbing followed by deep moisture is key.
Light Scrubs (Sugar Scrubs): Can be applied every three to four days. These are great, but stay away from ones that have excessive oil, which can clog your pores.
Harsh Scrubs: Only apply once per week or every two weeks, as you don't want to over-exfoliate and dry out your skin.
Product Recs: Juice Beauty carries my favorite body scrub and body moisturizer, but I am always looking for new products to try!
5. Skin Care Products: The Non-Negotiables
Skincare is always a must! Your daily routine should be: cleanse, tone, and always apply moisturizer.
Weekly Self-Care: Take time to perform a home facial every week, adding a scrub and mask between cleansing and toning. During hot months, Clarisea SeaSalt Solutions: Rapid Detox Charcoal Exfoliant as a scrub and Kissed By A Bee Organics Charcoal Face Mask are favorites. The Mario Badescu's Seaweed Cleansing Lotion is great for dry skin during the spring.
6. Lip Colors: The Essentials Trio
Every girl must have readily available the following colors: a red, a pink, and a neutral lipstick. Pair these with three lip liner pencils: a pink, a red, and a brown. Having these six products allows you to mix and customize any lip color desired to fit your mood!
Spring Go-To: For easy application on the go, I keep a close-to-clear gloss on me at all times. My current favorite is LAMIK IMPORTANT—it’s perfect for everyone.
7. Body Oil: Beat the Ashiness
This is a makeup bag must-have to prevent ashiness. Brown Sugar Baby products are a fabulous go-to. They are lightweight while still providing intense moisture and smell great! (I once had a lady chase me down in Vegas to ask what scent I was wearing!). They won't give a greasy look in the heat and won't transfer.
8. Bronzer: The Perfect Glow
For the perfect beach or 'fresh-faced' look, bronzer is a must!
Ingredient Check: Make sure the mineral powder of choice matches your skin tone and contains no talc powder. Check the ingredients; your cheeks and jawline are where some people have larger pores, so putting toxic, comedogenic makeup on top can easily cause breakouts.
Application Tip: Check the bronzer against your neckline to see how much shine and shimmer it has, and remember: avoid over-using bronzer...you don't want to make your skin look muddy!
9. Cheek Contours: Don’t Over-Contour!
Contour is essential, but remember: don’t over-contour! A quick and easy way to contour is to apply a darker color under the cheekbone and a lighter color on top.
My go-to contour cream is LAMIK Glorious Sculpting Cream. It's a deep color that works on all skin tones for a great natural contour. A little goes a long way.
Try Fenty Beauty Match Stix; it’s a light pink with lots of shimmer. A great way to apply this product is on top of your cheekbones.
The Silk Naturals Palace Blush is a deep-brown orange, great for contouring.
10. Natural Deodorant: Head-to-Toe Skincare
If you haven't yet, make the switch to natural deodorant (check out my blog post on How to Switch to Natural Deodorant!). It is important to treat your underarm skin with care.
Pro Tip: Applying toner and moisturizer to your underarm before putting on your deodorant helps the product work best. Keep an extra deodorant and body wipes on you for quick midday touch-ups. I always keep a little essential oil and body oil mixed on me for a quick refresh!
What product are you most excited to add to your makeup bag this season?
Always check the ingredients before using a new product. Your skin is the largest organ. Remember, some of what you put on your skin can be absorbed into your bloodstream
