The Scent Test: This is your first warning sign. If a foundation, lipstick, or cream smells "off," sour, or like old wax—toss it immediately. That’s a sign that the preservatives have stopped working and bacteria is moving in.
Repair or Retire: If a powder is shattered or a compact is broken, it’s time to let it go. However, if you love the shade, you can re-purpose it! Crush the remains into a loose pigment or mix a broken shimmer shadow with a clear gloss for a custom lip topper.
Brush Check-Up: Your brushes are your most important tools. If the bristles are shedding or the handle is wobbly, it’s time to replace them. Pro-Tip: A high-quality brush should last years if you wash it weekly!
Liquid Separation: Check your liquids and creams. If your foundation has separated into layers that won't mix back together when shaken, the formula has broken down. Throw it out to avoid a patchy, uneven finish.
The Lip Color Save: Don't throw away those lipsticks that are down to the nub! Scoop out the remaining color from the bottom of the tube, melt them down gently, and mix them together in a small pot. You’ll create a completely new, custom LAMIK shade that is uniquely yours!
