However, some ingredients, particularly those with a small molecular size, can penetrate the outer layers of the skin. This is why the quality and safety of the ingredients you use truly matter.

By understanding what's in your products, you can:

Avoid Irritants: Steer clear of ingredients you know your skin is sensitive to.
Select the Right Actives: Choose products with ingredients that address your specific skin concerns, whether that's acne, dryness, or aging.
Make Informed Decisions: Feel confident that you are using products that are both safe and effective.

My little weekly ritual! I love a good face mask, but it's so important to be a conscious consumer. There are so many options out there, so I always make sure to check the ingredients. Propylene Carbonate

Propylene Carbonate is a transparent, odorless liquid often used as a solvent in a variety of beauty and skincare products. While it might sound technical, its main job is to ensure a product's formula is stable, smooth, and effective.

How It's Used in Beauty Products

As a Solvent: Its primary function is to dissolve other ingredients that don't mix with water, particularly pigments and other key components. This is why it's a common ingredient in liquid and cream-based formulas, from eyeliners and foundations to nail polishes.
For Texture and Viscosity: Propylene Carbonate also acts as a viscosity-controlling agent. It helps to give a product its desired thickness and texture, ensuring it applies smoothly and evenly. This is crucial for products that need to be spreadable and consistent.
Suspension Agent: In products with solid particles, like mineral foundations or loose pigments, it helps to keep those particles suspended evenly throughout the formula, preventing them from settling to the bottom.

Propylene Carbonate is generally considered safe for use in cosmetics in low concentrations and is a key ingredient for a product’s stability and performance.
