The Chocolate Cure: Why Waxing Beats Shaving for Facial Hair

"Hair, hair, hair!" It’s the one thing almost every client asks me about, yet so many of us try to hide it or handle it the wrong way at home. Whether it's a "soul patch" on the chin or those pesky sideburns, we all have it—and it’s time to talk about the best way to get rid of it.

Debunking the Biggest Hair Myth

One question I get constantly: "Will shaving make my hair grow back thicker?" [03:35]. The answer is NO. Shaving, waxing, or threading cannot change the thickness of your hair. However, shaving cuts the hair at a blunt angle, making it appear thicker and darker when it grows back. Waxing actually pulls the hair from the follicle, which can eventually weaken the hair and make it grow back softer over time [04:19].

The Professional "Smooth Skin" Workflow

If you aren't in Houston to see me at the LAMIK store, you can still use these steps with your local esthetician to get high-quality results:

The Cleanse: Always start by toning the skin to remove dirt and oils. Pro Tip: Never wax over super dry patches! It can make your skin raw [02:00].
The Chocolate Wax: We apply the wax in the direction of hair growth and remove it in the opposite direction [02:43]. This ensures the hair comes out quickly and cleanly.
The Post-Wax Scrub: This is the secret to preventing ingrown hairs. Right after waxing, I use the LAMIK Micro-Dermabrasion Scrub (sometimes mixed with tea leaves!) to smooth out the hair follicles and help the healing process [05:34].
The Hot Towel: A hot towel opens the pores back up to fully absorb the healing nutrients of the next steps [06:31].
The Seal: Finish with Toner (with green tea and aloe) to close the pores and Mattifying Moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated without the oiliness [07:31].
