How to Prep Your Pout
Have you ever bought a beautiful lipstick, but when you put it on, the color looked completely different than it did in the tube? Or maybe your lipstick tends to settle into fine lines?
The secret isn’t just the lipstick—it’s the preparation. You want your lips to be a smooth, neutral canvas so they can catch the color easily. Follow these five steps to get a professional finish every time.
Lip Prep Routine
1. Exfoliate Start by gently exfoliating your lips. Whether you use a light sugar scrub or a soft damp cloth, removing dead skin is the first step to a smooth application. No more flakes!
2. Hydrate & Blot Apply a light lip oil to nourish the skin. Give it a moment to sink in, then blot your lips with a tissue. You want the hydration, but you don't want the surface to be too slippery, or your lip liner won't stay put.
3. Neutralize with Concealer This is the pro-tip! To get the true color of your lipstick, apply a small amount of concealer all over your lips. This evens out your natural lip tone and acts as a primer so the pigment really pops.
4. Define the Line Outline your natural lip line. This creates a "border" that prevents your lip color from bleeding and helps define your shape.
5. Apply the Color Now that your lips are smooth, hydrated, and neutralized, apply your favorite lip color! You’ll notice it glides on easier and the color looks exactly like it does in the packaging.
JT’s Takeaway
"Think of your lips like a canvas. You wouldn't paint a masterpiece on a rough, dark surface—you'd prime it first! Treat your lips with the same care."
