Mascara is often the finishing touch that brings an entire makeup look to life. It opens up the eyes, adds drama, and gives you that polished, "awake" look. However, applying it perfectly without clumps or smudges takes a bit of technique!

Follow these five easy steps to get long, voluminous lashes every time:

The Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Get the Right Angle Look down into a mirror and gently lift your brow using your free hand. This naturally lifts your eyelid, giving you a clear view of your lash line and making it much easier to reach the very roots of your eyelashes.

Step 2: Coat from Underneath Place the mascara wand at the base of your lashes and sweep it upward. Use a slight "up and down" or "zig-zag" motion as you move toward the tips. This ensures every single lash is coated from the underside.

Step 3: Coat the Top Side For truly thick and dark lashes, don’t forget the tops! Sweep the mascara wand over the top of your lashes from root to tip. Coating both sides ensures your natural lash color is completely covered and adds instant volume.

Step 4: Build Your Volume The beauty of mascara is that it's buildable. If you want a more dramatic look, apply as many extra coats as you like. Just try to apply the second coat while the first is still slightly tacky to avoid "spidery" lashes.

Step 5: Define and De-Clump To ensure your lashes look feathered and professional, use a clean mascara wand (a spoolie) to comb through them while they are still wet. This removes any excess product and separates any lashes that may have stuck together.

Pro Tips for a Flawless Finish

Don't Forget the Bottom: For a balanced, wide-eyed look, apply the same technique to your bottom lashes. Use just the tip of the wand for more precision.
The "Clean-Up" Hack: We’ve all been there—a little mascara gets on the skin! Before you apply your foundation or concealer, take a Q-tip dipped in a little toner to clean up any smudges under the eyes. This keeps your base makeup looking fresh and bright.
