I learned these crucial tips firsthand at one of my favorite events: The unforgettable concert hosted by the phenomenal Kathy Taylor at the Buffalo Soldiers Museum in Houston, where Team LAMIK was on makeup duty. I had the joy of starting my day early doing makeup for all the background singers, and then watched the magic happen as Kim Roxie came in and SLAYED Kathy Taylor's makeup. I had the pleasure of staying for touch-ups to ensure Kathy Taylor and the singers looked their best all night long.
To help you shine on stage (for a concert, performance, or even a big presentation!), here are five essential tips we rely on:
1. Ditch the Talc (Avoid Flashback)
Stay away from products that contain talc! Talc and other silica-heavy ingredients are notorious for creating a bright white "flashback" under camera flashes or intense stage lights. This effect makes your face look ghostly in photos, even if it looks fine in person. Opt for mineral-based or natural-ingredient powders to keep your finish smooth and natural.
2. Check the Lights (The Final Test)
Lighting is everything. What looks blended in your dressing room mirror may look patchy or muddy under bright stage lights.
Double check your makeup in the most similar lighting you can find.
Look from far away to ensure your features are defined and don't disappear into the distance. Stage makeup needs more intensity and sharper lines than you might think.
3. Lock Down Your Lip Color (Stay Power)
Lip color is often the first thing to fade, especially when singing or performing.
Line first with a long-wear lip liner.
Fill your entire lip with a highly pigmented, matte lip color.
Top with a light gloss only in the center for dimension. Keep the gloss close by for quick, easy touch-ups during breaks!
4. Double-Set Your Base (Beat the Shine)
Stage lights generate serious heat, leading to shine. You need layers of defense.
Set your foundation with powder to eliminate excess shine.
Top with a setting spray. This fuses the makeup layers and locks everything in place.
Pro Tip: Always double-check the ingredients inside your products to ensure they are high-quality and free of irritants.
5. The Post-Show Skin Care Plan
Heavy stage makeup, sweat, and bright lights are tough on your skin.
Always do a double cleanse after the event to thoroughly remove every trace of makeup, especially the long-wear products.
Follow up with a deep moisturizer to replenish hydration. This routine will help keep your skin from breaking out.

Always check the ingredients before using a new product. Your skin is the largest organ. Remember, some of what you put on your skin can be absorbed into your bloodstream
