Brow Color Types: Which One is Right for You?
When you walk into a beauty store, the brow section can be overwhelming. Do you need a powder? A wax? Both? As a beauty expert, I believe that Beauty starts with the right tools.
The "best" brow product depends on the look you want to achieve and your natural brow hair. Here is my professional breakdown of the four most common brow color types:
1. Powder
Best For: A soft, natural, "shadowy" look. The JTLoveBeauty Take: Powder is my go-to for all clients. Because I can give the a filled-in look without harsh lines. I love using the LAMIK Brow Define Powder because it’s easy to blend and comes in shades that look like real hair. It’s perfect for beginners!
2. Pencil
Best For: Precision and "hair-like" strokes. The JTLoveBeauty Take: Pencils are great for filling in small gaps or creating a very defined tail at the end of your brow. If you have sparse areas from years of over-tweezing (like I did!), a pencil helps mimic the look of actual hair. But I don't love pencil, I only have a few I will use if I have too.
3. Gel
Best For: Setting hairs in place and adding a "tint." The JTLoveBeauty Take: Think of gel as hairspray for your brows. A clear gel is perfect for my "Active-Proof" Brow tip—it keeps everything in place while you dance. A tinted gel is great for a "busy morning" look when you just want a quick boost of color. A clear brow gel is great for setting your brow powder.
4. Wax
Best For: Long-wear and high definition. The JTLoveBeauty Take: Wax (or creams) provide the most "grip." This is what I use when a client wants a bold, polished look that won't budge. Wax can be heavy on the brows.
My "Expert" Combo
Most of the time, I don't just use one! My favorite "Power Brow" routine is to use a powder to fill in the shape, a skin tone sculpting cream to define the edges, and a brow gel to lock it all in so it stays perfect through my day.
