How to Cover Tattoos for Your Big Event
"I don't regret my tattoos, but I want them covered for the photos."
I hear this from clients all the time! Whether you are tattooed from head to toe or just have a few hidden pieces, there are moments—like weddings or formal galas—where you might want a clean, skin-only look.
Recently, I worked with a bridal party where two of the bridesmaids had chest tattoos that were very visible in their dresses. The bride preferred a uniform look for the photos, so I stepped in to work some magic. Using LAMIK, it was incredibly easy to create a "disappearing act" that lasted all night.
The JT Tattoo-Cover Strategy
You don’t have to change your skin tone or use heavy, "cakey" stage makeup to get results.
Follow these three steps to do it yourself:
Step 1: The Brighten Base First, cover the tattoo with your skin-tone Brighten Cream. Immediately follow that with a Brighten Cream that is one shade lighter than your skin. This helps to neutralize the dark ink (especially blacks and blues).
Step 2: Full Coverage Foundation Apply your LAMIK Full Coverage Foundation over the area. Use a stippling motion (patting, not rubbing) to build the pigment until you can no longer see the ink.
Step 3: Set and Lock This is the most important step for a wedding! Set the area with your skin-tone True Mineral Powder. This "locks" the cream in place so you don't have to worry about the makeup rubbing off on your expensive bridesmaid dress.
The Result
Even with a very dark tattoo, the coverage was seamless. As you can see in the photos, her skin looks natural, even, and—most importantly—the ink is completely invisible.
JT’s Professional Tip
The key to tattoo cover-up is patience. Layer your products thinly and build them up. If you rush it and put too much on at once, it won't stay. Take your time, set it well, and you’ll stay flawless through every photo and every dance!
