Makeup for Statement Hair
In this industry, your reputation is built on your character as much as your talent. One of my core values is: "Respect other people’s time, at all times." Being punctual and professional shows that you value the person in your chair. When we respect each other's time, we create a space where beauty can truly flourish!
When you are rocking Statement Hair, your face needs to hold its own. Whether you’ve just stepped out of my chair with a fresh burgundy color or you’re wearing one of my custom-colored wigs, follow these 5 tips to ensure your makeup and hair work together in harmony.
1. Choose Your Lane
When your hair is "loud," your makeup needs a clear direction. Choose either a natural look or a dramatic look. Don't try to do both! If you have a vibrant hair color, a clean, natural face can look high-fashion. If you go dramatic, ensure your colors complement your hair tone.
2. Define Those Cheeks
Statement hair can sometimes "wash out" the face or hide your features. To prevent this, define your cheeks. Use a contour or a bold blush to add structure back into your face. This ensures your bone structure doesn't get lost behind your hair.
3. The Stand-Out Lip
Even if you aren't doing a bright "Lip Pop," you must make your lips stand out. If you choose a natural tone, you still need to line your lips. This definition ensures your mouth doesn't disappear and keeps your face looking balanced against your hair.
4. Don't Forget the Brows
Your hair might be the star, but your brows are the director! Define your brows to provide a strong frame for your eyes. A well-groomed brow (using my favorite LAMIK Brow Kit) keeps your face looking "lifted" and polished, no matter how big your hair is.
5. The Seamless Blend
This is the most important tip for my wig lovers and hair color clients: Make sure your hairline is well-blended. There should be no harsh lines where your makeup ends and your hair begins. Use a small brush to blend your foundation right into the hairline for a seamless, natural transition.
JT’s Final Thought
Styling is an art form. When you respect the process—and the time it takes to get it right—the results speak for themselves.
