Contouring is essentially a game of "hide and seek." We use darker shades to recede certain areas and lighter shades to bring others forward. When it comes to the nose, subtlety is your best friend.

Follow these professional tips to get a sculpted look that looks like skin, not makeup.

Don’t Overdo It: The goal is a shadow, not a stripe.
Pick Your Shade: Choose a contour color just one shade darker than your natural skin tone. Going too dark will look like dirt rather than a shadow.
The Parallel Lines: Draw your lines lightly down the cartilage of your nose, running them parallel to the bridge. Keep the lines close together for a slimmer look, or wider for a more natural definition.
The Highlight: The color down the middle of your nose should be lighter than your skin tone. If you use a shimmer or shine, use it sparingly! Too much shine can make the nose look oily. Keep this line thin.
Blend, Blend, Blend: Don't stress about "perfect" lines initially because you are going to blend them together. The secret is ensuring there are no harsh edges left behind.
Build Your Color: Start with a tiny amount of product. It is much easier to add more color than it is to take it away.
Set Your Work: If you prefer using cream products, you must set them with a powder (like LAMIK True Mineral Powder) to prevent sliding.
The Tip Trick: To slightly "lift" or shorten the nose, apply a matte shade (one shade darker than your skin) to the very tip.
The "Long" Illusion: To make the nose appear longer and more elegant, start your highlight at the inside curve of your brow bone and bring it all the way down the bridge.
Choose Your Medium: You can achieve these results with liquid, cream, or powder. Use whatever feels most comfortable for your skill level!
