From Locs to Curls (And a DIY Lesson Learned!)

The Big Switch

Part of understanding your beauty is the willingness to try new things. Sometimes those experiments go exactly as planned, and sometimes... well, let’s just say 4C hair is no joke!

I recently saw a girl on social media who un-locked the front of her hair to create a curly bang with her locs. It looked absolutely stunning on her, so I decided to give it a try. Lesson learned: Social media makes it look much easier than it is! ### The Journey Back to Loose Hair My natural 4C curls are so tight and resilient that I couldn’t even flat iron it straight once they were free. I regretted the decision almost immediately, and honestly, I’m still paying for it today! It took a few days and a lot of patience to comb them out.

The good news? I used specific products to safely undo the locs and clean my hair during the process. Even though I lost some hair in the transition, my mane stayed healthy and thick. Now I know that if I ever want to "unlock," I don't have to cut it all off!

The Custom Solution

While my front section is growing back out, I decided to lean into a look I’ve always dreamed of. I love my locs, but sometimes I crave a head full of long, bouncy curls. Since my natural hair grows "up and out" rather than "long and down," I put my skills to work and created a custom-made wig by yours truly!

The "New Day" Glam

To celebrate this new look, I had to go bold with my LAMIK favorites:

  • The Lips: I am obsessed with how New Day looks! It’s a deep metallic purple that feels royal and edgy at the same time.

  • The Eyes: I stayed in the purple family using Retro (a lilac metallic) and Denim n Diamonds (a deep purple with sparkles) for that extra drama.

  • The Glow: Can we take a moment for this skin? Even without a heavy filter, my skin looks dewy and flawless using the LAMIK True Mineral.
