The day I graduated from Paul Mitchell The School Austin, I was at a crossroads. I didn’t know exactly what direction I wanted to go in, but I knew I needed a fresh start. I packed up my car and headed back to Houston to give TSU another try.
It was a scary move. I didn't have family in Houston, but I had something just as powerful: a life long friends. My girl Deanna, one of my oldest friends, gave me a special gift of her time while in Houston to see her family.
Surround Yourself with Empowerment
If there is one thing I’ve learned in the last decade, it’s this: Surround yourself with people who love and empower you. This is what keeps you on track when you feel lost and helps you move forward when things get tough.

The Beauty Date: Check-In & Glow Up
Sometimes the best "therapy" isn't a long talk—it's a Beauty Date. Checking in with your friends while getting pampered is the ultimate way to recharge. Whether it’s a quick touch-up or a full spa day, it’s about the connection.
On our latest beauty date, I realized something: Beauty is also about innovation! I recently added a ribbon to my hair just to keep a loc from falling out, and it’s turned into a total fashion statement. Sometimes our little "fixes" become our favorite looks.
💡 Guide to the Perfect Beauty Date
Next time you want to check in with your bestie, try one of these:
The "Home Spa" Night: Put on some music, do your LAMIK Facials together, and catch up on life.
The Consult: Come see me for a Custom Foundation Blend session! It’s fun to see each other’s "Reveal."
The Shopping Spree: Head to your favorite local boutiques (like Shoe Fetage!) and pick out a new fall find for each other.
A Message to My Friends
To Deanna and all my friends who have been my family along this journey: Thank you for keeping the beauty in my life. You are the reason I keep moving forward.
When was the last time you went on a beauty date with your friend?
Tag your friend in the comments and tell her it’s time to glow up!
