How to Wear Orange (Without It Wearing You!)

Orange is the color of the season. From the runways to the street style in Houston, it is everywhere! But I’ll be honest—when many of my clients see a bright orange lipstick, they feel a little nervous. They want to try the trend, but they don't want the color to overpower their natural beauty.

I recently had a client come into the studio with this exact goal. We wanted that fresh, trendy orange feel, but with a soft, wearable finish.

The Custom Blend: Mauve Meets Peach

To create an "impactful but natural" orange, we didn't just grab a neon tube. We layered for a custom, high-pigment result:

  • The Base: We used Timeless Mauve, a true mauve with a beautiful matte effect. This provided a sophisticated, "cool" foundation.

  • The Pop: We layered Peach lip gloss right on top. This specific gloss has a pink undertone that, when mixed with the mauve, created a stunning, wearable orange-coral.

  • Pro Tip: Both of these colors are highly pigmented, so a little goes a long way! We skipped the liner this time to keep the edges soft and effortless, but you can always add one if you want a more defined look.


The "New Color" Journey

When trying a bold trend like orange, everyone goes through these three stages:

  1. The First Glance: You look at the new color in the mirror and think, "Is this really me?"

  2. The Closer Look: You lean in, check the pigment, and start to see how it makes your eyes pop and your skin glow.

  3. The Realization: That moment you pull back, smile, and realize—I love it!
