The reality is that treatment brings significant physical changes. But beauty is a powerful tool for self-care and reclaiming your identity. Here are a few tips I shared with the incredible ladies of this survivor group to help them navigate the changes and feel beautiful every day.
Tips for Living and Thriving After Treatment
1. Join a Community and Stay Empowered
You are not alone. Empower yourself and others by joining a survivor group and staying involved. These communities provide essential emotional support, shared wisdom, and a network of people who truly understand your experience.
2. Make Daily Self-Care a Ritual
Your skin and hair will likely change during and after treatment, so your routine needs to adjust. Commit to doing your makeup and taking care of your skin and hair daily. This isn't vanity; it's a vital act of self-care and normalcy. Change can be hard, so enlist the help of a professional—they can guide you to new products and techniques that work with your changing look.
3. Master Your Brows
Losing some or all of your brow hair is completely normal.
Go to a professional to have them shaped. Even if they are sparse, having a defined shape will give you a clear outline, making it much easier to fill them in daily.
Use a high-quality brow powder or pencil to softly rebuild your arches.
4. Simple Fixes for Lashes
Losing lashes is also a normal side effect. A strip lash or individual lashes are quick, easy, and effective ways to fix this. They immediately open your eye and enhance your expression, restoring a sense of normalcy and glamour.
5. Prioritize Moisture and Healing
Moisturizer is extremely important during and after treatment. Treatments can severely dehydrate and irritate the skin. Applying high-quality moisturizer liberally and frequently will help to soothe and heal your skin barrier.
6. Embrace a Healthy Lifestyle
Beauty starts from within. Eat right and live an overall healthy lifestyle. Focusing on nutrition and movement not only improves your physical health but also boosts your energy, mood, and skin quality.
Remember: Your beauty is defined by your strength, not by your hair or lashes. But taking the time for self-care is a powerful step in your journey to healing and happiness.
