Searching for the Perfect Shade: An Ode to Island Breeze

Every makeup artist has that one product they can't live without—the shade that works magic on every client. For me, that color was Island Breeze from LAMIK. It’s a bright blue that truly stands out, yet I could apply it in a way that gave my clients a stunning, natural look. It was the perfect pop of color.

You can see its beautiful vibrancy in these photos of model Ashley with the talented artist Matthew Funches. Unfortunately, this color is no longer on the market, and after recently breaking my last compact, I'm officially on the hunt for a replacement.

Finding the perfect eye shadow can be hard, especially when you have a strict set of standards. I’m not just looking for a similar color—I'm looking for a clean, high-performance formula that meets my personal rules for shopping for eye colors.

My 3 Rules for Shopping for Eye shadow

No Talc: I stay away from talc because it can be harsh on the skin and is a common irritant, especially for the delicate eye area.
Paraben-Free: I avoid parabens due to their links to potential health concerns. Choosing a paraben-free product is a simple way to make a healthier choice for my clients and myself.
Gentle Ingredients (Gluten-Free, etc.): I believe that gentle, well-formulated ingredients, like those in vegan and gluten-free makeup, are better for the skin and provide a smoother application.

Microcrystalline Wax

Microcrystalline Wax, also known as Cera Microcristallina, is a high-performance wax used in a wide range of beauty products. Unlike other waxes, it's known for its fine crystal structure, which makes it a valuable ingredient for improving a product’s texture and stability.

How It's Used in Beauty Products

Thickens & Stabilizes: It is an excellent thickener and stabilizer for formulas. It helps to give products like lipsticks, balms, and creamy concealers their solid shape and prevents them from melting or separating.
Adds Hardness and Durability: Microcrystalline wax is harder and more durable than other waxes. This makes it a key ingredient in products that need to hold their shape, such as lip liners and eyebrow pencils, ensuring they don't break easily and apply with precision.
Binds Ingredients: It acts as a powerful binder, holding pigments and other ingredients together in a smooth, uniform matrix. This is crucial for creating a consistent color payoff and a product that glides on effortlessly.
