(Hint: It’s Not Just Your Foundation!)
As a beauty expert, I get asked the same question almost daily: "How do I get my makeup to look like skin and stay glowing all day?" We all love a good luxury serum or a high-end foundation, but I’m going to let you in on a professional secret: Makeup is only as good as the canvas it’s sitting on. If you aren't tracking your beauty habits and self-care behind the scenes, you’re working twice as hard to get that "glow" in the mirror. Today, I want to talk to you about the three pillars of a beautiful canvas:
Habit Tracking, Hydration, and Mindful Self-Care.
Water: Your Skin's Internal Moisturizer
I’ve been on sets where the heaters are blasting and everyone's skin starts looking like sandpaper. I can always tell who has been drinking their water just by how the makeup interacts with their skin.
The Beauty Expert Fact: When you’re dehydrated, your skin loses its "bounce" (turgor). Makeup starts to cling to dry patches or looks "cakey" because the skin is trying to drink the moisture out of your foundation!
JT Tip: Aim for at least 8 glasses a day. If plain water is boring, add lemon or mint. Your skin—and your makeup artist—will thank you.
Consistency is the difference between a "good skin day" and "good skin for life." If you don't track it, you can't measure it. I always tell my clients to keep a simple log or use an app to track:
Nightly Cleansing: Never, ever go to bed in your makeup or with a dirty face. Tracking this helps you stay accountable.
SPF Application: Sunscreen is the ultimate anti-aging tool.
Product Rotation: Are you exfoliating too much? Or not enough? Tracking helps you find your "sweet spot."

Self-care isn't just a buzzword; it’s a biological necessity. Stress shows up on our faces as dullness, breakouts, and dark circles. Whether it’s a 10-minute dance break (my personal favorite!), a quick meditation, or just five minutes with a jade roller, that time spent on yourself lowers cortisol and brings the blood flow back to your face for a natural, healthy flush.
