The reality is that I always go back to square one, and that’s okay. Instead of feeling guilty, I’ve learned to embrace the cycle of setting new goals. If I fall short, I don't quit—I just set another goal.
My only goal that truly never changes is: I always want to work to be a better version of myself. Whether that means gaining more knowledge, getting more fit, or just plain feeling better on the inside, I work towards it.
The Food Rule That Works for Me
For me, the best way to manage what I eat and lose weight is simple: I only eat what I cook and only what I cook. This gives me total control over ingredients and portion sizes, even if it's just a simple sandwich and chips.
Here is my favorite satisfying and easy meal:
My Favorite Low-Calorie Sandwich: Veggies, Eggs, and Cheese
This sandwich is under 300 calories and truly fills me up!
2 slices of wheat bread
2 slices of low-fat turkey
2 slices of turkey bacon
Onion, Spinach, and Bell Pepper
1 fried egg
1 slice low-fat cheese
My Fitness Goals (It's About Comfort, Not a Number)
Right now, my goal is to be fit, toned, in shape, and comfortable with the way I look and feel in the clothes I own.
While my goal weight is 200 pounds, I know my height suggests I "should" be between 120-160 pounds. I don't want to get that low—my focus is on how my body functions and feels, not just the number on the scale. (In the picture below, I was 180, which reminds me of the hard work I've done!)
To reach my current goal, I plan to work out 3-5 times a week. I have a membership to Planet Fitness and use these apps to keep my routines fresh and accountable:
Fitbit
Yoga for Fat Burn
My Workout Plan
Tasty and Tasty Recipes (because planning healthy meals is part of the workout!)
Finding Joy in the Process
To keep my spirits up and my focus positive, I rely on small acts of self-care. I buy myself $4 flowers from Trader Joe’s. Having something fresh and pretty to look at instantly boosts my mood. Yellow has always been my favorite color, so I love Yellow Roses!
