A dark lip is one of my favorite looks, but when you wear the same color over and over, it's fun to find ways to change it up. I recently discovered a simple technique that gives my go-to dark lip a whole new look while making the color last all day. And I am loving it!
This is how I change up my favorite dark lip colors to get a fresh new look.
Step 1: Create a Deep Base
First, prep your lips by applying a concealer that's a shade or two darker than your skin tone. This acts as a base, not only giving your lipstick something to grip onto but also instantly deepening the final color.
Step 2: Define and Shape
Next, use a lip liner like Chestnut lip liner to generously over-line your lips. The goal is to create a fuller shape and provide a base color for your favorite lipstick to adhere to.
Step 3: Fill It In
Now, fill in your lips with your favorite dark lip color. You'll be amazed at how much richer and more intense the shade looks.
The result is a custom dark lip that's a little bolder and lasts all day without any touch-ups.
Ingredient Spotlight:
Octyldodecanol
Octyldodecanol is a clear, odorless fatty alcohol derived from natural vegetable oils. Don't be fooled by the "alcohol" in its name—it's a very different ingredient than drying alcohols like ethanol. This versatile component is prized for its ability to improve the feel and performance of makeup.
How It's Used in Makeup
Emollient: Octyldodecanol is an excellent emollient. It helps to soften and smooth the skin, providing a silky, non-greasy feel to products like foundations, primers, and lipsticks. This makes makeup feel comfortable and glide on effortlessly.
Solvent: It has amazing solvent properties, which means it helps dissolve and blend other ingredients that don’t easily mix. This ensures a stable and consistent formula and helps to evenly disperse pigments, so you get a smooth, uniform color every time.
Texture Enhancer: This ingredient is a go-to for improving a product's texture. It can reduce a foamy or sticky feel, making lotions and creams feel more luxurious and pleasant to use.
Always check the ingredients before using a new product. Your skin is the largest organ. Remember, some of what you put on your skin can be absorbed into your bloodstream
