Life has a way of testing us. After my mother passed away, I found myself in a difficult season. I was working at a wax center, and while I was at my highest earning point professionally, I was at my lowest point emotionally. I showed up every day and gave 100% of my energy to my clients—because they are my priority—but I didn't have much left over for "office politics."
When you are grieving but still have to work, "faking it" becomes exhausting. I realized I needed a fresh start, which led me to Dillard’s. There, I eventually became the Edge Manager, overseeing multiple prestigious brands. Even with access to every high-end product you can imagine, I found myself consistently recommending LAMIK.
I will never talk down on another brand, but I want you to know this: If I recommend a product, it’s because I know the ingredients are safe and, quite simply, it works.
Today, I want to focus on a group that is often overlooked in the beauty world: Women 55+. As our skin matures, our needs change. Here is how to get that flawless, healthy look without the struggle.
Makeup for Mature Skin: What to Avoid vs. What to Do
1. Avoid Heavy Mattes (Choose Hydration Instead) As we age, our skin naturally loses moisture. Heavy, matte foundations tend to "sit" in fine lines and make the skin look flat.
The Pro Tip: Look for "Skin-First" ingredients. I recommend LAMIK Custom Blend Foundation because it provides coverage without the "cakey" feel. It lets your skin breathe and gives a soft-focus finish.
2. Avoid Sharp, Dark Eyeliners (Choose Soft Definition) Harsh black liners can look too heavy on maturing lids.
The Pro Tip: Use a soft brown or plum. Smudge your Chocolate Lip Liner (yes, it works on eyes too!) along the lash line for a softer, more youthful definition that opens up the eye.
3. The Importance of Ingredients At 55+, your skin is more sensitive to chemicals. Many brands use "fillers" that can cause inflammation or dryness.
The Pro Tip: Read your labels! This is why I stick with LAMIK and brands that carry the same values. The ingredients are clean and purposeful. When your makeup has good ingredients, you don't need as much of it to look "Photo Ready."
4. Don't Skip the Brows Brows tend to thin as we get older, and the "frame" of our face disappears.
The Pro Tip: Don't draw them on too dark. Use a shade like Dark Brown or Med Brown to softly fill in the gaps. It provides an instant "eye lift" without surgery!

A Note on Integrity
My journey through grief and my career move to Dillard's taught me that being "nice" isn't always about a fake smile—it's about showing up with integrity for the people who trust you. I am here to give you the truth about what works for your skin, no matter your age.
