When you see your favorite hosts and guests on TV looking flawless, there is a secret weapon behind the camera: The Makeup Artist. I had the incredible joy of being the on-set makeup artist for a taping of Great Day Houston. While I love a full glam look for the ladies, one of my favorite challenges is Male Grooming. People often ask, "Do men really wear makeup on TV?" The answer is a resounding YES!

Meeting Lance from California

One of my clients for the day was Lance, visiting all the way from California. He came in with great blonde hair and a fantastic tan, which made my job much easier.

The goal for male makeup on camera isn't to make them look "made up." It’s about HD Skin Management. Under the bright studio lights of a set like Great Day Houston, even the best skin can look oily, red, or washed out.

The Secret Weapon: LAMIK True Mineral Powder

Because Lance already had a great tan, I didn't want to change his color. I simply used LAMIK True Mineral Powder to blend his complexion.

The Goal: Eliminate the "shine."
The Result: A natural, matte finish that looked like skin, not makeup.

By using the mineral powder, I was able to keep him from looking shiny under the hot stage lights while making sure his natural California glow still came through the lens.

💡 3 Tips for Male Makeup on Camera

If you are a man heading into a professional photo shoot or a TV appearance, here is what you need to know:

Hydration First: Use a light moisturizer like LAMIK Balancing Moisturizer about 15 minutes before makeup. This prevents the powder from looking "cakey" in the beard or eyebrow area.
Focus on the "T-Zone": The forehead, nose, and chin reflect the most light. A quick dust of True Mineral Powder in these areas is often all a man needs to look "Billboard Ready."
