Stage vs. Street
When I’m teaching the LAMIK 7 Steps, I usually emphasize one word: blend. But when a client comes in wanting an "out of the box" eye that needs to stand out on stage, the rules change.
Stage makeup isn't for the person standing two feet away; it’s for the person in the back row. Up close, the colors may look bold and the lines might seem sharp, but under those heavy spotlights, they look absolutely perfect. If you blend your stage makeup too much, it will disappear.
Follow these steps to GET THE LOOK
Step 1: High-Definition Brows
Fill in the brows using Dark Brow Define Powder. To ensure the eyes look lifted from a distance, highlight the brow bone with a Brighten Cream that is lighter than your skin tone. Blend this slightly so it pops against the stage lights.
Step 2: Electrifying Eyes
Base your lid using the Brighten Cream to make the colors grab. Apply Electric Blue Eye Décor to the lid right above the crease. Using the same brush, highlight the space between your crease and the under-brow with White Beige Eye Décor. This creates a high-contrast look that won't get "washed out."
Step 3: The Winged Liner
Using your Duo Brow Brush, line your eyes with Black Eye Décor on both the top and bottom. Wing the liner out significantly—bold wings are essential for defining the eye shape on stage.
Step 4: Metallic Lash Accents
Apply your strip lashes. To add that "out of the box" sparkle, line your bottom lash line with Silver Eye Décor. Finish by lining the outer wing with Golden Eye Décor for a dual-toned metallic effect.
Step 5: The Flawless Canvas
Cover any dark spots with Brighten Cream and apply Full Coverage Foundation using your foundation brush. To ensure your face doesn't shine under the hot lights, use your Kabuki Brush to set everything with True Mineral Powder.
Step 6: Triple-Dimension Cheeks
Contour: Place Deep Rose Contour Blush under the cheekbone to create depth.
Highlight: Apply Bright Yellow Eye Décor to the top of the cheekbone to catch the light.
Color: Add Red Rose Contour Blush to the apples of the cheeks for a healthy, vibrant flush.
Step 7: The "Pastel Glow" Lip
Base your lips with Brighten Cream to neutralize your natural lip color. Line with Maple Lip Liner, then apply Pastel Pink lip stick directly to the lips! Blend it out with Clear Lip Gloss in the middle for a high-shine, stage-ready pout.
The Professional Secret
Don't be afraid if the lines look sharp in your dressing room. On stage, those lines work with the lights to create a perfectly sculpted, 3D image. Trust the pigment, trust the steps, and get ready to Show Out!
