Keep Your Custom Unit Looking "Photo Ready"
Whether you are wearing a custom-made unit like mine or a store-bought piece, how you care for your wig determines how long it stays beautiful. A high-quality wig is an investment in your style, and with a little TLC, it can last a very long time!
To keep your curls bouncy and your lace looking natural, follow my professional "Wig Care" routine.
1. The Gentle Wash
Just like your hair, wigs need a cleanse—but you have to be gentle!
The Rule: Only wash your wig after 10–15 wears, or when there is a visible buildup of product.
The Technique: Fill a basin with lukewarm water and a sulfate-free shampoo. Submerge the wig and gently agitate. Never rub the hair together, as this causes tangling and shedding!
2. Moisture is Key
Since the hair on a wig doesn't get natural oils from your scalp, it can get dry and brittle fast.
Pro Tip: Always follow up with a high-quality conditioner. For curly units, use a leave-in conditioner or a light curl cream to keep those coils defined and frizz-free.
3. Handle with Care (Detangling)
Never, ever brush a curly wig while it’s dry! This will turn your beautiful curls into a frizzy mess.
The Technique: Detangle only when the wig is wet and saturated with conditioner. Use a wide-tooth comb or your fingers, starting from the ends and working your way up to the roots.
4. Let it Breathe (Drying)
Avoid using high heat on your wigs whenever possible.
The Technique: Place your wig on a folding wig stand to air dry. This allows air to circulate through the cap and the hair, preserving the shape and the "lace" area.
5. Heat Protections
Before applying any heat be sure to use a heat protector. Every 2-3 washes do a repair mask to help make your wig soft.
The Fix: Use a soft toothbrush and a little bit of rubbing alcohol or lace cleaner to gently remove makeup buildup from the hairline. This keeps the "melt" looking natural and seamless.
🛍️ Your Wig Care Shopping List
Keep your custom units in tip-top shape with these essentials:
Folding Wig Stand – Essential for air drying and maintaining shape.
Sulfate-Free Cleansing Duo – To keep the hair healthy without stripping moisture.
Wide-Tooth Detangling Comb – The only tool you should use for curly units.
LAMIK True Mineral Powder – To "tint" your lace so it matches your skin tone perfectly!
Style Tip:
When I’m wearing my curly wig, I love to pair it with a bold lip like A Deep Purple. The volume of the hair and the shimmer of the metallic purple really work together to create an impactful look.
