We’ve all been there—holding onto that one favorite brush for a little too long. But just like mascara or foundation, brushes have a shelf life! Using old, damaged, or poor-quality brushes can actually hinder your makeup application and irritate your skin.

To Love Your Beauty, you need tools that work with you, not against you. Use this checklist to see if your current brushes are "Photo Ready" or if they need to be retired.

🚩 The "Red Flag" Checklist: Time to Toss!

If your brush fits any of these descriptions, it’s time to say goodbye:

  • The "Shedder": If you find bristles on your face after applying your powder, the glue in the ferrule has failed.

  • The "Scratcher": If the bristles feel prickly or irritating on your skin, they have become brittle. This is common with old natural hair brushes.

  • The "Stiff": If the brush is permanently stiff or sticky even after a deep clean, it has too much product buildup inside the "cuticle."

  • The "Scented": If your brush has a funky smell even after washing, it’s likely holding onto bacteria or mold.

  • The "Wobbler": If the metal part (the ferrule) is loose or wobbly on the wooden handle, it’s a safety hazard and won't give you precision.
