They say you should "Dream BIG or Go HOME." My whole life has been fueled by dreams. Some of them came true, some I let slip away, and others I simply didn't put in the work to reach. But in January 2007, just days after graduating from Paul Mitchell, I made a choice. I remember my last shift at Arby’s—my car was already packed in the parking lot, ready for the drive to Houston the second I clocked out.

Back then, my dream was simple: move to the big city and build a life on my own terms. Everyone—family, friends, coworkers—asked me, "What’s your plan? How are you going to survive?"

Honestly? I didn't have a plan. I just had a dream.

The Lesson in the "Waiting Room"

I spent my first few months back in Houston working at Denny’s to pay the bills while searching for my "dream job." At 19, no one wanted to hire a girl fresh out of school. Eventually, I landed a front desk job at a high-end spa. I liked the job, but I hated that I wasn't the one behind the chair. I wasn't doing the makeovers.

But I didn't stop. I went to TSU to hand out makeover cards, and that’s when a student told me about a place called LAMIK.

The Words That Changed My Life

During my interview at LAMIK, the manager asked me what my dream was. I told her, "God placed it on my heart to work for a makeup line. I’m not sure of the details, I just know I love makeup."

She looked at me and said: "Have you ever thought that God wants you to help someone else’s business grow?"

Those words shifted my entire world. They taught me that success isn't just about your name on the door; it's about service, growth, and partnership. Since spring 2007, I have seen my hard work pay off right in front of my face.
